Where did 2014 go?

I realize I have not posted in yonks. I forgot all about this blog until I felt like I wanted to do an update but didn't feel like it was a facebook type of post and then it dawned on me that I've all but neglected this blog. oops.

Before I knew it, Christmas crept up and now we are welcoming the end of 2014 and the start of 2015. Time really flies, more like time just disappeared. This year has been especially eventful for us because we got married. So now my gf is Mrs Gorilla, luck for her only in name and not in looks.

Valentine's day is fast approaching and since my cards seem to do best then, I was motivated to come up with new designs. It took quite awhile before I could come up with something good but when one idea came to me, it all started rolling in. I have 6 ideas floating around in my head, 3 of which I've already finished up and the other 3 are still bouncing around, waiting to be realized.

I have much respect for artists who create art for a living because you can't just sit down and be creative, it needs to come to you before you can create something. It's not like doing work where you sit down and set out to finish up the tasks in front of you. Maybe they just have a lot more creativity so they never run out of inspiration. That's pretty awesome, I can only imagine the kinds of dreams they have.

Do look out for my new Valentine's day cards. As usual they will be silly and some subtly rude.

Hope 2014 was good to you, then here's to a better 2015!

Valentine's Bonanza!

After Christmas and the New Year's passed, the shop got really quiet on Etsy and just as I was beginning to wonder when the Valentine's frenzy will pick up, BOOM! It came in like a wrecking ball sans nudity and sexual innuendos.

It's been very busy leading up to Valentine's day and it's been a hectic time for the gf and I trying to pack the cards as soon as we can so that as many people as possible can get their orders in time for Valentine's day.

"Imagine all the people getting otters for Vday!" said the gf, only then did I really think about it.

The other 5 new designs for Valentine's day seem to be playing supporting roles in comparison to the otters card so please show them some love too!

My day job is going to get very busy soon so I'm trying to come up with new designs before the craziness at work hits. The next batch of designs will be mostly food/pastry related. These ideas have been floating around in my head for awhile now, think it's time to finally draw them out. Look out for a new addition to my 'favourite animals' series too.

Wishing everyone a great Valentine's day ahead :) Thank you for supporting the shop!

Happy 2014 and getting ready for Cupid's season

Happy New Year!! 2014 started out with a creative burst of ideas which is a great way to usher in the New Year. Finally got 2 designs out to print today. Have others that are almost done but not quite and a couple more ideas that are simmering in the background.

All the new designs will be related to Valentine's day so be sure to pop by my store in the next 2 weeks. There will be a zombie themed one, as well as a part deux of the Sillies, this time from the girl's point of view. I got a couple of convos last year asking if I could switch the roles around but I couldn't do it in time so I've created a new one. Also a circus of hamsters will appear to defy the odds! I'm hoping to get the others out as well, in time for people out card shopping for Valentine's day.

Git to Valentine's day card shopping!

Don't judge a gorilla by his looks

My grandma always finds it funny that despite my size, I have one of the most sensitive tummies.

The gf has taken to calling me her delicate flower because of the delicate state of my stomach. So I've become known as the delicate gorilla-flower.

Custom orders for Christmas ornaments

I felt a sense of Deja Vu. This time last year, I remember thinking to myself that I should put up listings for custom orders for Christmas ornaments. And now it's a little too late for that since it takes me at least 4 days to fulfil one order and it seems to take longer than the instructions said it would to dry. It must be the humidity in Singapore, it's monsoon season now too.

The good news though, is that the one custom order that I did manage to do turned out pretty nicely despite it being my first time using dough. I had no idea how it would turn out but I had a vague idea of how I wanted it to look and tried to manipulate the dough as best as I could.

Looks a little bug-eyed but exotic short hairs (or as I like to call them affectionately, pancake-faced cats) tend to look that way anyhow. Still need to refine my technique and the finish but I like the overall look of it.

If you'd like a custom order for a Christmas ornament of your cat or almost any animal, feel free to send me a convo with a picture. Of course, this means it will have to wait till next year... by which time, I hope, barring early onset dementia, I will remember to have custom listings up for people to order from.

Dream Big Little One

Today, I finally got the stamp that I ordered and had so much fun trying it out stamping it everywhere on a piece of paper. I got so much joy out of it.

When I was young, I thought cashiers had so much fun pressing the register buttons. I also thought the guy at the supermarket that used that hand-held machine where you press a lever and you stick a price tag onto an item had the most fun job ever. I guess I still find the act of stamping/sticking labels fun.

The waitress that came around with our food chuckled a little to herself when she saw me stamping away so happily. I must have looked all of 4. Quite a sight if you imagine an overgrown gorilla stamping away with glee.

Can't wait to use it for the first time tonight when I prepare an order to send out!
